In the Solomon Islands' capital, Honiara, crime has increased to dramatic levels. Acting Commissioner of Police Operation, Edmond Sikua, believes that the increase of crime is the work of criminal opportunists. Many of the people that have taken part in the crimes are groups of young boys in the Ranadi industrial area and homes on the east side of the capital. To me I wonder why these opportuniest have suddenly popped up has goverment tension has eased. I question also why they have recruitted so many young men. What will happen to the young boys on the Islands? Lastly how will this reflect on the new goverment? To me I worry that this high crime rate will leave a sour taste in the international politics and be wary about the new goverment that took hold in December. Then I wonder also if the new goverment can keep its so far stable role if its future politicians are being recruitted by criminal opportunists.
